She recounted the hours leading up to Sir Henry's death, describing the intimate conversation they'd shared in the library. Her account seemed genuine, but Inspector Finch couldn't help but notice a subtle gleam in her eyes as if she were hiding something beneath her porcelain facade.

Raventhorne, the mysterious artist, proved to be an enigma in more ways than one. His alibi was seemingly airtight—he had been in his studio, working on a new masterpiece, the entire evening. Yet, something about his unwavering gaze and the intensity with which he spoke of his art left a lingering suspicion in Inspector Finch's mind.  

General Montgomery Standish, the stern military man, had little to offer in terms of an alibi. He had been in the garden, lost in thought as he gazed at the stars. His relationship with Sir Henry was well-known, but the general's unease was palpable, and his hands trembled slightly as he recounted the events of that fateful evening.

Miss Penelope Wren, the celebrated novelist, provided a detailed account of her time spent with Sir Henry's discussing their latest literary projects. She mentioned a heated argument that had occurred just days before between Sir Reginald and an unknown correspondent, a detail that pricked Inspector Finch's curiosity.

The investigation also led to the revelation of a secret passage within Willowbrook Manor, concealed behind an ornate bookshelf in the library. This hidden corridor, dust-covered and forgotten, hinted at a labyrinthine history. It was lined with shelves filled with antique tomes and curiosities, offering tantalising clues about the manor's past.

As Inspector Finch sifted through old letters, journals, and faded photographs, a troubling narrative began to emerge—a story of hidden rivalries, long-held grudges, and clandestine affairs. It seemed that beneath the veneer of Willowbrook's genteel society, dark secrets had festered for years, secrets that Sir Reginald had been on the brink of exposing.

Rumours whispered through the village, casting suspicions in every direction. Lady Eleanor's past dalliances and Raventhorne's eerie obsession with his art became fodder for gossip. General Standish's military history and Miss Wren's knack for crafting intricate plots painted them both as potential culprits.
